Counting down to Chengdu Universiade: venues with "Sichuan flavor"

　　CHENGDU, China, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The 31st FISU World University Games will open in Chengdu, China on July 28. A total of 45 venues will be used for training and competitions in Chengdu 2021. As the countdown to the Chengdu Universiade approaches 100 days, let Xinhua take you on a tour of the venues with "Sichuan flavor."

　　The opening ceremony of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games will be held at the Dong'an Lake Sports Park Stadium. As the main venue of Dong'an Lake Sports Park, the "silver frisbee" shaped stadium located at Chengdu's Longquanyi District has a capacity of 40,000 seats and covers a floor area of 120,000 square meters.

　　The 50m-high stadium fulfills the operational conditions required for opening and closing ceremonies of large-scale events with its high-standard VIP reception area and a 29m-high, 300m-long arc-shaped viewing platform. Its dome is decorated with more than 12,000 pieces of colorful glazed glass, depicting the pattern of the "Sun Bird", which represents the combination of the sense of historical weight and the futuristic geometric structure.

　　Dong'an Lake Sports Park Multi-Purpose Gymnasium is the biggest among the three venues lying next to the main stadium. The 90,169.37 square-meter gymnasium serves as a competition and training venue for artistic gymnastics events during the Games and will witness 14 golds from August 1 to 5.

　　Dong'an Lake Sports Park Aquatics Center covers a floor area of 73,549.33 square meters. During Chengdu 2021, it will be used as a competition, warm-up and training venue for swimming events. A total of 42 gold medals in swimming events will be awarded here from August 1 to 7.

　　Dong'an Lake Sports Park Multi-Ball Games Gymnasium.

　　Dong'an Lake Sports Park Multi-Ball Games Gymnasium is the smallest of the three venues. The gymnasium that serves as a training venue for artistic gymnastics events during the Games covers an area of 35,700 square meters, with three floors on the ground and one floor under the ground.

　　Fenghuangshan Sports Park Gymnasium.

　　Fenghuangshan Sports Park Gymnasium is going to be a destination for hoop fans during the Games, as two gold medals in basketball events will be awarded here. The gymnasium located in Chengdu's Jinniu District is an extra-large venue that covers a floor area of 119,704.76 square meters, with seven floors above the ground and one floor under the ground.

　　The futuristic-feeling High-tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium was inspired by the Sichuan Brocade, leaving people with a deep impression of its comfort curves. The venue that already staged the World Team Table Tennis Championships covers a floor area of 82,732 square meters, with one floor of large space, five floors above the ground and one floor under the ground. During the Games, it will serve as a warm-up and competition venue for table tennis events.

　　Jianyang Cultural and Sports Centre Gymnasium is the warm-up and competition venue for judo events. The exterior design of the 18,500 square-meter venue abstracts and simplifies the traditional craft of bamboo over porcelain.

　　The Chengdu Open Air Music Park.

　　The world's largest panoramic surround sound, half-indoor theater Chengdu Open Air Music Park will host the closing ceremony of the World University Games on August 8, 2023. The structure spans 180 meters horizontally and reaches a staggering height of 50 meters. The projectable dome on top covers an area of approximately 10,000 square meters, while the sprawling lawn viewing area can accommodate up to 47,000 audiences. The design ideas of the music park were drawn from elements of the sun and Immortal Birds, the Tianfu culture and ancient Shu music.

　　The Chengdu 2021 Summer Universiade has a total of 27 competition venues and 18 training and warm-up venues.
